My latest shoot features Canadian Model Rex Cable who contacted me through Model Mayhem to arrange a shoot whilst he was on his travels to Ireland, he wanted to shoot with me as he said it was difficult to find a photographer who has experience shooting Male Models and that is indeed what I have!….. In fact Male Models was a specialty of mine in the last couple of years from professional footballers to Italian Armani Models and international popstars close family (Jedward’s brother to be precise !) So I hope you enjoy my new set “Jailbreak” and “New Wave Revolution”.
I am currently teaching an Introduction to Digital Photography course in MakeupFablicious Academy in Dublin, the course aims to provide a basic introduction to Digital SLR photography, camera techniques, technical settings and introduction to Photoshop. With an emphasis being on studio lighting techniques for fashion & portrait photography and what is possible from a basic home studio set-up. The course runs over a period of four weeks, week one is camera technique and technicality, week two is lighting and studio set-up, week three is an introduction to photoshop and week four is a studio lighting workshop with fashion shoot.

Cathy O’Connor’s life in the fashion industry has been both diverse and extensive. During her time as Fashion Editor of U magazine, Cathy styled and co-ordinated a number of fashion editorials. She has also styled music videos including Boyzone and Eurovision veteran Johnny Logan, and continues to dress some of the most stylish women in Ireland and now cathy teaches fashion styling via MakupFablicious.
As I myself work as a photography tutor at MakeupFablicious I have the privilege of working with a talented team of up and coming make-up artists, hair stylists and fashion stylists. Under the guidance of Cathy, the students of the Academy were set the task of styling 5 models to a look of their choosing. Art directing the shoot and working with myself to create a series of fashion images based on their look.

I was contacted at the beginning of November last year to create images for Kevin Grimes portfolio that would have a darker and more edgy fashion look as my work is more conceptual and fine art orientated than the average fashion photographer.
I wanted to portray him with a harder edge, Keven has some very strong features that are perfect for high fashion and high concept photography and we went along with a theme that I would call cyberpunk, a futuristic comic book concept which is a nod towards films such as Bladerunner and Mad Max, with the hairstyle (created by hair stylist Anna Curren) that is inspired both by the film Eraserhead and his brothers Jedward. The Jacket was Kevin’s own and the vintage military belt and WW2 flying goggles were my own.
Kevin was a natural in front of the camera and expressed himself with great ease, I would say he could diversify his image to great success in the modeling world, he was friendly and welcoming to ideas and seemed very down to earth. We had a good laugh on the shoot and his relaxed approach resulted in some great photos.
The Photos are currently being featured in Heat magazine in the UK 9 – 15th April 2011

Fashion photography is a genre of photography devoted to displaying clothing and other fashion items. Fashion photography is most often conducted for advertisements or fashion magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair.

The first day of the Elite Model Look Ireland Portfolio shoots took place in the Hilton Dublin Airport Hotel on 24th August.
Rick Taylor of First Focus photography and official photographer for the Elite Model Look shot the first set of portfolios for the finalists, consisting of 3 different looks for each girl.
Rick shot seven of the finalists throughout the course of the day,over a two day period, creating head shots, casual, formal and high fashion looks for each girl, which is quite a lot to get through by anybody’s standards.

Working along side the team of Make-up artists, hair stylists and fashion stylists Rick guided the girls through their different posing techniques to create a really strong set of images for the girls, as this was the first ever photo shoot for the majority of the girls the final results will show the combined result of natural ability and great team work…….and a great photographer……of course!

The Semi-final of the Elite Model Look Ireland 2010 contest resulted in 14 girls being selected to go through to the final show on 3rd September in the Wright Venue.

A selection of shots from my latest shoots
It has been a while since I last updated my blog, as I have been busy with various projects, such as the Elite Model Look Ireland photo castings that have brought me up and down the country visiting Cork, Limerick, Galway, Dublin and Belfast with the Elite Team.
I also just completed 12 shoots in the one week shooting various models, performers and events that have brought me to such locations as a forest in Wexford, a luxury Spa at the Royal Marine Hotel, an underground car park a derelict house , an Ice Bar, two nightclubs, the beach and up a tree!
I have been shooting with various stylists, make-up artists and 8 different models, working on editorial shots for such clients as Louis Copeland, Sinead Doyle, Pink boutique, Secret Chic, the Wright Venue and Sebrick Studios.
